Within the Interreg Italy-Austria PANORAMA project, Work Package 2 (WP2) focuses on developing an innovative Web GIS service designed to estimate and visualize the renewable energy potential in the project’s pilot areas.
A strategic goal for the energy transition
The main objective of this activity is to provide clear and geolocated data on renewable energy potentials, with particular attention to photovoltaic systems. This information will support more informed and targeted planning, promoting the creation of Renewable Energy Communities (CER) capable of meeting current environmental and energy challenges.
The development phases of WP2
The work carried out under WP2 is structured into two main phases:
1. Data collection and spatial analysis
This first phase involved building a comprehensive database and conducting spatial analysis to estimate the theoretical potential of the selected areas. Geomorphological data, consumption profiles, and other key territorial information were collected.
2. Development of an advanced model
In the second phase, an advanced model was developed to integrate geomorphological data, enabling more precise and reliable estimates. This approach allows for evaluating the actual capacity of the pilot areas to host renewable energy production facilities.
An online service for everyone
The results of WP2 will be made available through an interactive Web GIS portal, allowing users to visualize maps with analyses and collected data. This tool will also serve as the foundation for the multicriteria system planned in WP5, supporting decision-making for local authorities and stakeholders.
A concrete contribution to a sustainable future
WP2 of the PANORAMA project marks an important step toward the energy transition, offering communities and local authorities practical tools to plan renewable energy development effectively and sustainably.
